Dude, wheres my iPad? Variety is reporting that Ashton Kutcher will play Steve Jobs in Jobs, an indie film about the late Apple co-founder and CEO, who passed away last October.
Joshua Michael Stern, who directed and wrote 2008′s Swing Vote, will direct, and Matt Whiteley will write the script. The film, according to Variety, will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, though its not clear how much of the movie will cover Jobs later years with Apple. The resemblance between Kutcher and young Steve Jobs is pretty strong, at least.

Jobs is not to be confused with the big-budget biopic that Sony Pictures is working on. That film will be based off Walter Isaacsons official biography, and according to a rumor from last November, will feature either George Clooney or Noah Wyle as Jobs. (Wyle has already played Jobs once, in the made-for-TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.)
Kutcher has dabbled in drama, with films such as The Butterfly Effect and The Guardian, but hes best known for comedies such as Dude, Wheres My Car? and the TV series That 70s Show. Still, Kutchers a start-up investor and one of the most popular users of Twitter, so his interest in technology goes beyond owning a few Apple products. He will reportedly film Jobs while on hiatus from Two and a Half Men.
Theres no word on when Jobs or the Sony biopic will be finished, but production on the indie film will begin in May.
