Kanye West recently filmed an episode of VH1's Storytellers and somewhere in between rambling on about himself for three hours and performing 14 songs in front of a live audience, he somehow found time to insult Radiohead, defend Chris Brown and refer to O.J. Simpson as "amazing."
Bet you didn't know Kanye West love O.J. Simpson.
The show's executive producer Bill Flanagan told Reuters much of what West had to say was edited out, not because of the nature of his comments, but because of time constraints. "A lot of the stories that Kanye told went long," Flanagan said. "I tried to get the essence of his comments."
Still, it seems Flanagan decided to cut out some of West's more interesting comments, including a knock at the music group Radiohead. West was apparently pretty pissed that Radiohead singer Thom Yorke had ignored him backstage at the recent Grammy awards and told the audience:
So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the f--k down!"
Another comment not included in the show, involved Chris Brown:
Can't we give Chris a break?... I know I make mistakes in life."
Last time I checked getting someone's name wrong is considered a mistake, as is taking the wrong exit on the freeway. Beating your girlfriend doesn't exactly fall under that category.
West also apparently took time to praise Michael Jackson and Michael Phelps, calling them amazing. Then he decided to offer praise to an often over looked American hero:
O.J. Simpson, amazing. Is he not? What he did, when he did, what he did. Was he not amazing though?"
Um, no, not so much. What exactly was so amazing about him? His long forgotten football career? Being acquitted of the murder of his wife? Or maybe you're refering to him stealing his sports memorabilia back at gunpoint?
West should probably be more selective in his choice of role models.
The point of Storytellers is for artists to play their songs before a live audience and comment on how they were written. The episode featuring West is scheduled to premiere this Saturday on VH1.
