This just in: Mariah Carey was voted one of the Worst Dressed People of All Time by People Magazine!
(As I said with Christina, this isn't why I hate her, but I think it's interesting to know.)
OK, I'll admit it. I used to like Mariah Carey. Back in 1990 or so, when she first came out, I thought she was awesome. (Keep in mind that I was in 5th grade at the time.) I thought - and to a certain extent, still think - that Mariah Carey has a killer voice. Her voice hasn't changed, but a lot of other things have, and that's why I no longer care for her.
Any of you that listened to the radio a lot in the '90s remember that Mariah's style was a lot different when she first came out. Kind of like Celine Dion, only not quite as showoffy. But things changed. After she dumped Tommy Mottola, she went from singing Celine Dion/Whitney Houston-type songs to standard pop crap like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, or boy bands sing. I think this was a huge mistake on her part. For one thing, this type of music really sucks. For another, it doesn't set her apart from any other artists. Now that she sounds like everyone else, she's sort of lost her appeal. And that brings me to my third point, that this change in style is alienating her old fans. Since Mariah is now a Britney Spears soundalike, I despise her. This sort of music is obviously way below what she's capable of doing. Her old fans know that. Too bad her new fans probably won't.
Another reason I dislike Mariah is that she's a prima donna. She will only allow people to photograph her from one side, she has ridiculous requests for her dressing room, and in short, she has a major attitude problem. Being a star does not give one the right to treat people like shit, and I'm surprised anyone puts up with her.
This is the part everyone knew was coming. You know, the part where I rag on Mariah for the way she dresses. All this has been said a thousand times before, so I'm gonna keep it short. Mariah is setting a bad example for little girls. Unlike Brit, Mariah actually has talent, so there's no reason for her to go around half naked all the time.
