Nah, it's got stronger vocals & is faster. But for someone who hasn't heard the song, that was a really smart comparison. lol
I have no idea what song I would compare this to. Unless it's totally obvious (WBT/DFAU, My All/After Tonight, UTS/FOJ), then I'm never good at this game. I'm going to make a prediction - the best compliments for this song will be for the hook, bridge, lyrics & melody. The worst complaints for it would be for having a lot of rap and possibly about the production (I can already see people thinking this is going to sound like Rihanna's "uptempo r&b" aka club songs... it doesn't). But I think almost everyone would love her vocals on it. I can't think of any "whispering" in the song.. maybe only the ad-libs over the rap parts (which I find very melodic and add a lot to the song).
This is so true, throughout the process, there were a lot of entities that told MC not to include rappers on this song, or to make it more pop, but this is a song that came from her heart. I'm sure MC wants this to be a hit, but what she wanted more was to put this out because she loved it and connected to it and all her considerations came from a musical and not a "strategic" standpoint. The song is HOT, and she has a record label, management and publicists - they should be the ones working it to make sure it gets the attention it deserves. And if it doesn't because of the state of current pop music, then so be it - at least she's doing something she feels right with, and not Rihannaing her way into radio.
I would definitely define it as an uptempo, though I can see people calling seeing it as a midtempo because she's not fast singing on it, she's SANGING. haha.
