BEST: Mariah CareyMariah Carey, who delivered a much-talked about performance in this year's dark horse film Precious, turned up on the red carpet wearing this flowing Valentino gown with a high slit. Her sequined clutch made a sparkling statement and almost perfectly complemented the other sparkly elements to the outfit.
BEST: Carey MulliganBritish actress Carey Mulligan has been wearing a lot of Prada this red carpet season, and it appears she chose to stay true to her favorite brand for the biggest show of the year. All hail Ms. Mulligan in Prada. This strapless, sparkling gown looks perfect with Carey's fresh platinum pixie cut, and absolutely sets her apart from the rest of the merengue pack on the evening's red carpet.
OKAY: Diane KrugerActress Diane Kruger is one of those women who could take to the red carpet in a burlap bag and still be the envy of every woman in the room. And when she's wearing Chanel, well, it just doesn't seem quite fair. Kruger wasn't nominated for an award this year, but she still looked every bit the winner in an elaborate Chanel gown with a gathered black collar. So unbelievably gorgeous, if not predictable.
BEST: Elizabeth BanksElizabeth Banks was one of Zimbio's best dressed stars of last year - and with good reason. The actress is always smart and chic in ultra-glamorous gowns, and her showing at the 2010 Oscars was no different. Banks opted for a gray-lavender strapless Versace gown with just enough glitter for the red carpet.
BEST: Paula PattonThere are two ways to go with a maternity gown at the Oscars: full and flowing or snug and sexy. Actress Paula Patton, who played a caring teacher in the much-praised film Precious, opted to go the sexy route in a fire engine red gown by Carolina Herrera that clung to her growing baby belly. The actress is expecting her first son with her husband, singer Robin Thicke. They plan to name the child Julian.
BEST: Miley CyrusBreaking news everyone - Miley Cyrus has confirmed her relationship to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth! Oh, and she also wore a beautiful gold strapless gown by British designer Jenny Packham to the 2010 Oscars. Miley, who was accompanied by her mother, Trish, seemed happy to be at the awards show, even if her posture communicated otherwise.
BEST: Rachel McAdamsRachel McAdams has been working the red carpet for the past several months, promoting Guy Ritchie's new flick Sherlock Holmes almost non-stop. Her appearance at the 2010 Academy Awards continued her winning streak on the fashion front: She donned a gorgeous, strapless gown with a soft, pastel print.
Best: Gabourey SidibeGabourey Sidibe has won the public's admiration with her fun attitude and cool confidence, and she's quickly learned how to work the red carpet. The actress wore an off-the-shoulder royal blue gown with sparkly embellishment around the neckline. Sidibe paired her stunning dress with an elegant, loose hairdo with soft waves. She was incredibly proud of the dress she chose, saying that she knew from the beginning that "this was it."
OKAY: Sarah Jessica ParkerSarah Jessica Parker looked like a princess -- literally -- at last year's ceremony, when she wore a Dior Haute Couture ball gown that landed her on many a best dressed list. This time around, she chose a completely different direction: a unique Chanel Couture dress that easily stands out in a crowd.
BEST: Amanda SeyfriedAmanda Seyfried has had her share of hits and misses on the red carpet, but the fashion world will agree that her look at the 82nd Academy Awards was a win. The strapless design is perfect for her silhouette, and pleats around her hip create a dramatic, full skirt. Lovely. Also breathtaking: her chunky bracelets, which she wisely chose instead of a necklace.
BEST: Sandra BullockTonight is huge for Sandra Bullock, who's considered the front runner in her category. The actress didn't shy away from looking the part, donning a shiny gold gown with embroidered flowers around the neckline on the red carpet. Sandra got it right: She looks like royalty, and her glossy, side-parted hairstyle is reminiscent of Veronica Lake.
BEST: Tina FeyTina Fey looked lovely at the 2010 Oscars, where she walked the red carpet in a black sequined one-shoulder gown designed by Michael Kors. It's tough for many stars to make black look distinctive in a sea of bright colors, but Tina pulled it off perfectly. The interest in the texture of the dress and the neckline really made it stand out, and Fey's pinned-back hairstyle let the attention stay on her shoulders and glowing skin.
BEST: Maggie GyllenhaalMaggie Gyllenhaal's unique style doesn't always translate to the red carpet, but she nailed it on her big night at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. The actress donned a strapless black and blue design by Dries Van Noten (whom she's been known to wear before) which highlighted her slim figure and showed off her individual aesthetic.
BEST: Anna KendrickAnna Kendrick was one of the first Oscar nominees to walk the red carpet at the 2010 Academy Awards, and she stole the show in a dusty rose-colored, off-the-shoulder gown, designed by celeb favorite Elie Saab. The soft color looked lovely against her pale skin tone, and she seemed perfectly at home in the choice.
BEST: Jennifer LopezJennifer Lopez put the plunging necklines away for the 2010 Academy Awards, positively glowing in a gorgeous Armani Privé gown. Lopez paired the soft lavender gown with a sweet, elegant updo and soft, ultra-feminine makeup. She kept the accoutrements simple, wearing diamond earrings, a thin diamond bracelet, and little else.
OKAY: Nicole RichieJoel Madden is DJing at the Oscars this year, so he brought his lovely fiancée Nicole Richie along towalk the red carpet. In typical Nicole fashion, she chose a unique boho-style dress with loose sleeves and an empire waist, and the glittery silver and black color turned heads. It was designed by celeb favorite Reem Acra.
BEST: Mo'NiqueMo'Nique usually sticks to sparkly and metallic designs on the red carpet, but she changed her tune with a royal blue gown at the 2010 Academy Awards. The actress talked to Ryan Seacrest about her role in Precious and showed off her glowing skin in a ruched dress, saying the awards are "not at all a competition" and added, "Were nothing but kids with grown up faces."
BEST: Cameron DiazActress Cameron Diaz has yet to be nominated for an Academy Award, but the cool blonde is always one of the most interesting women to watch on the red carpet (thanks, of course, to celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe). Diaz looked lovely as ever in a true dreamgirl gown by Oscar de la Renta. Everything about the gown, from the sparkling embellishments to the soft sweetheart neckline, works perfectly with Diaz's breezy beauty.
BEST: Sigourney WeaverSigourney brought all the glamour and glitz we've come to anticipate to her Oscars appearance in her deep garnet-hued gown by Lanvin. Weaver's dress was on-trend with its asymmetrical jeweled neckline and black sashed waistline. Needless to say, Weaver looks nothing less than smashing, if not a little safe.
