Pop heavyweight Lady Gaga shockingly missed out on the ‘Best New Artist’ category at this year’s Grammy Awards. Criticism for the mishap must have got back to the Recording Academy committee because they have now revised the eligibility requirements for the next ceremony.
There is no doubt that Gaga had become the most popular new artist of 2009. She was ineligible for a Best New Artist nomination because her smash ‘Just Dance’ had been nominated in 2008, before she went on to become one of the world’s biggest multi-platinum selling artists. The rule was, previous Grammy nominees were not allowed to be nominated for Best New Artist.
Due to Gaga missing out, here’s what Recording Academy President Neil Portnow had to say: “There will be some changes so that particular situation won’t repeat itself”. Lots more other changes were made to the rules, which you can read about by clicking here.
The changes were announced earlier today (July 7th) and now allows previous Grammy nominees to be eligible. That is, providing the artist hasn’t released an entire album and doesn’t win. This is kind of surreal. You just know you’re on your way to Queen status when the Grammys are changing their rules just to appease you. Congrats Gaga!

นั่นก็เพราะเพลง Just Dance ถูกเข้าชิงรางวัลในปี 2008 แต่หลังจากนั้นเพลงที่ก็ไปดังตามที่ต่างๆทั่วโลกก่อนจะมาดังในอเมริกา แกรมมี่ย์จะไม่อนุญาตให้ศิลปินหน้าใหม่ที่ขายไม่ถึงแผ่นทองคำขาวมาเข้าชิง (หมายถึงในตอนนั้น) ซึ่งปีที่กาก้าถือกำเนิดคือ 2008 แต่ตอนนั้นไม่ดัง เลยไม่ได้ชิง แล้วพอมาปี 2009 กาก้าก็ไม่ใช่หน้าใหม่อีกต่อไปแล้ว เพราะออกอัลบั้มมาข้ามปีแล้ว
ในตอนนี้ Neil Portnow ท่านประธานของงานจึงเปลี่ยนกฏแกรมมี่ย์บางอย่างเพื่อไม่ให้ถูกครหาในเรื่องนี้อีก กฏในข้อนี้มีผลตั้งแต่วันที่ 7 มิถุนายนที่ผ่านมา จากการเปลี่ยนกฏในครั้งนี้อาจจะทำให้กาก้าได้เข้าชิงศิลปินหน้าใหม่ยอดเยี่ยมในปีนี้หรืออาจะไม่ได้เข้าชิงเลยก็ได้ ต้องแล้วแต่กรรมการผู้ตัดสิน
แต่เอ๊ะ ตอน Nelly Furtado ได้แกรมมี่ย์กับเพลง I'm Like a Bird ชีปล่อยซิงเกิ้ลตอนปี 2000 แต่มาได้แกรมมี่ย์ตอนปี 2002 อันนี้กรณีเดียวกันรึเปล่า
